Spring’s here—and while your trees might still be waking up, now’s the time to make sure they’re set up for a healthy season.

Here’s a quick, easy checklist to get your trees in shape:

A healthy tree in a green suburban lawn surrounded by a fresh mulch bed, with bold red and white text reading 'Spring Tree Maintenance Checklist for Homeowners'.

  1. Inspect for Winter Damage: Look for broken branches, cracks, or any leaning that wasn’t there before. If anything seems off, call in a professional to take a closer look.

  2. Prune Dead or Damaged Limbs: Trim small dead branches yourself, but save the high or heavy stuff for a certified arborist. Pruning now helps prevent future issues.

  3. Refresh Mulch Beds: A fresh 2–3 inch layer of mulch helps protect roots, lock in moisture, and keep weeds out. Just don’t pile it against the trunk.

  4. Water if It’s Dry: Spring rains are great, but if your area’s been dry, give trees a slow, deep watering once every couple weeks to help roots stretch deep.

  5. Fertilize as Needed: If your soil is lacking nutrients, add a slow-release fertilizer. A soil test can help you know for sure.

  6. Look for Early Signs of Disease or Pests: Discolored leaves, odd growths, or sticky sap could mean your tree’s under stress. Catching issues early saves you big down the line.

Spring maintenance isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things. Your trees (and your yard) will thank you.
